Lately, I've been hearing a lot about the debate over Sunday hunting. Most states do not currently allow Sunday hunting for large animals. For example, in Pennsylvania, you are permited to hunt foxes, crows, and coyotes on Sunday, but you are not permitted to hunt other animals such as whitetail deer, turkey, or bear. Most hunters agree that Sunday hunting would be great because it would be just another day to do what they love doing. And as long as they observe the same rules and regulations that are in place every other day of the week, what could it really hurt? Another very good point about Sunday hunting is the fact that it would increase the revenue in most states. According to the Associated Press at http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/10/sunday_hunting.html Pennsylvania alone "could generate up to $804 million in economic activity by permitting the additional day of hunting. The Legislative Budget and Finance Committee report said it would create about 7,500 jobs and almost $57 million in taxes." So, not only would it make the hunters happy to have an additional day of hunting, but it would also improve the economy by bringing in more money and creating more jobs. That in itself is hard to argue with.
From what I have heard and read from people who are against Sunday hunting, their main complaint about having hunters in the woods on Sundays is that during hunting season, they will constantly have to be on the lookout for hunters in the woods, and they will have to hear gunfire on a day that most people view as a day of rest and relaxation. Some people are also concerned that issues with hunters trespassing on private property would increase.
Another reason why people are against Sunday hunting is that people that like to go hiking, biking, bird watching, or do other various activities in the woods would have to constantly worry about their safety while they are trying to enjoy the outdoors. In my opinion, people that enjoy these types of activities have all summer to go out and do whatever they want in the woods. Once hunting season rolls around, most people aren't usually out in the woods doing any of these activites, so if they are allowed to do what they want in the summer, than why should hunters be restricted during various hunting seasons throughout the rest of the year?
Personally, I think Sunday hunting is a great idea. Having an extra day to go hunting would be fantastic. It makes it even more exciting to know that we could also improve our state's economy. If you are against Sunday hunting and don't want to worry about people on your property, you can simply post your property to legally ban them from hunting on your property.
I would love to hear your opinion on this topic. Are you for or against Sunday hunting??
